Overview of HGH

Human Growth Hormone is naturally produced by our bodies in the pituitary gland of the brain.  Even though the full implications of growth hormone are not fully understood, it is known that growth hormone is essential in many aspects of life, including repairing tissues, fighting disease, and helping cells regenerate.  HGH is at its highest levels through puberty.  In almost all people, growth hormone levels start to dwindle after the age of 20.

Research into growth hormone replacement therapy began in the early 1980s.  At that time, there was no synthetically made version of growth hormone.  Instead, scientists extracted growth hormone from cadavers of deceased people.  Then, the growth hormone was injected into the study patients. The results of the test were incredibly positive.  It was evident that growth hormone could be used for treating a wide variety of diseases, encouraging growth, and even reversing the aging process.

A synthetic version of growth hormone was soon made.  In its synthetic form, growth hormone is called Human Growth Hormone, or HGH.  No one has received growth hormone from cadavers since 1985.   Interestingly, HGH has fewer side effects than the real growth hormone.  The real growth hormone was linked to several types of cancer.  HGH, on the other hand, is made from amino acids (the building blocks of our body’s proteins) and does not cause cancer.

HGH is available by prescription only in the US and only for treating a few specific conditions.  When prescribed, HGH is an expensive treatment option.  Injections of HGH cost about $8,000-$35,000 yearly.  This is, however, the most effective form of HGH replacement therapy because the medicine is injected directly into the body.  There are also HGH sprays available which require the patient to take the medicine orally.  The medicine will be absorbed into the blood stream but, since it is going through the capillaries of the mouth, it is not as potent.  HGH sprays are still expensive at about $600 yearly.

Besides from the conditions it treats, there are many benefits to HGH.  Studies and patients report that HGH causes weight loss, an increase in lean muscular tissue, improved cognitive abilities, higher levels of energy, mental health stability, deeper sleeping, enhanced sexual abilities, revitalized skin, improved digestion, thicker hair, and faster healing process after injury.

There are some side effects associated with HGH though.  Some of these can include high blood pressure, increased chance of diabetes, retaining water, carpal tunnel syndrome, inflammation to joints, or some problems with sugar metabolizing.   Further testing is needed before the full risks of HGH are understood.

It is currently illegal in the US for anyone to receive HGH without a prescription.  However, there are many HGH supplements available on the market.  It is important that you realize that these HGH supplements do not actually contain HGH.  Instead, they contain formulations which are designed to release natural growth hormone in the body.
